hello!
i've been writing craft blog posts in my head for probably a year. i've discovered the great time suck that is craft blog reading. but it is so inspirational and fun!
so i guess my first post should be 'about me.'
i'm a portlander and mother of two boys, ages 3 and 5 months. (so yeah crafting seems to happen more in my head than in my sewing area.) my day job is environmental engineering. but i have recently rediscovered the world of sewing. my mother sewed constantly when i was growing up and i loved making doll clothes for my cabbage patch kid. my mom gave me her husqvarna viking sewing machine when i was in college. she received it as a wedding present in 1973. i've had it in for 2 tuneups and it is still going even if i do have to hold the thread out over a pen when winding the bobbin. i think it weighs about 80 lbs.
i hardly used it for years and then managed to sew my finger one evening a few months after i got married. that was in 2000. i finished those curtains about a week later and then didn't touch it until i was pregnant with number 2 and needed to sew a shrek costume for number 1.
back on the horse! i have so much respect for the machine.
so what have i been sewing? baby quilts mostly. and halloween costumes. shrek, of course, and this year - matching pirates.
so tell me about the candy again
i hope santa brings me a serger!
